Fabric Covered Bulletin Board DIY

Good morning everyone!  Since it's a rainy day out there we get to work more on the remodel today...woot woot!!  More on that in a later post...today I want to show you one of the things I made this week for the new office we're working on.

My DIY Fabric Covered Bulletin Board...so quick and easy...

….and cheap, lol.  Who doesn't love quick and cheap?!

Suggested Supplies:

  1. 1 yard of fabric  ($8.97 at WalMart) You can get cheaper fabric, but I chose a specific print so the Old Man didn't feel like I was trying to purple him out of the office lol
  2. bulletin board  ($6.47 at WalMart)
  3. fabric adhesive ($4.97 at WalMart)
  4. thumbtacks ($1 at Dollar Tree, leaves plenty of extras for another project)
  5. hot glue gun and glue sticks (not shown here)

I started by laying my fabric out (print side down) and ironing it so it was nice and crisp.  After it's smooth, lay the bulletin board on the fabric.  To max frugalness on fabric I placed it in the already cut corner of the fabric...this will leave me more fabric to use elsewhere as well as two less cuts to make.  Allow 3 inches of fabric on each side of the bulletin board.
You'll notice I didn't remove the frame from the board...I like the way the frame looks under the fabric, but you are welcome to remove the frame if you like.  If you do remove the frame, just make sure it's before you measure out your fabric to cut.

After you have your cuts made, flip the board so it is front side facing up.  Now squirt the fabric adhesive over the cork part and smooth out tight to the frame.  I like to work the board before I get to the working the frame.  Once the fabric is nice and tight on the board I line the  front of the frame with adhesive and smooth the fabric over the frame.   Always let the fabric adhesive dry completely before flipping it over

Since I'm not very patient...I placed my thumbtacks while the adhesive was drying.  I started by pushing them into all four corners, then I eyeballed where I wanted the rest to be.  You are welcome to measure these out, but I'm all about quick and easy.

All dry and ready to flip

...and lastly to hot gluing the fabric to the back of the frame. I only put about 4 inches of hot glue on at a time, so I can stretch the fabric over and make sure it's smooth before the glue dries.   I fold my corners like wrapping a gift and hot glue those nice and tight. (I know, I missed these pics).

This is how it turned out.

What do you think?  Are you ready to try it?  Let me know in the comments below....

Feel free to share this quick and simple project to dress up that old boring bulletin board for any wall.
